The Marakwet West Member of Parliament, Timothy Kipchumba has called on all security agencies in the country to emulate the National Police Service (NPS) who are set to roll out an online recruitment system to ensure the exercise is free and fair.
The legislator said, for years, the recruitment exercise of all the disciplined forces has been marred by allegations of corruption with Kenyans complaining of being asked for bribes if they wanted to be recruited.
Speaking in Iten during the budget public participation exercise, the legislator said the demand for hefty bribes has ensured that only the children of the rich were recruited leaving out thousands of qualified and deserving poor Kenyans. "It is sad that the recruitment of officers in the disciplined forces has become a preserve of the rich with the poor being forced to sell family properties to raise the bribes while those who have nothing to give are left out," he said.
Kipchumba said the digital process where all applicants upload their documents online with only those who qualify undergoing the fitness test at the grassroots will ensure that all Kenyans are given a chance to join the forces.
