The East African Community (EAC) member states have reaffirmed their commitment to intensified conservation efforts for Lake Victoria in the face of escalating threats posed by pollution and climate change.
This renewed pledge was made during the 23rd Ordinary Sectoral Council of Ministers for the Lake Victoria Basin (SECOM-LVB), held in Kisumu.
The high-level meeting brought together Cabinet Secretaries in charge of EAC Affairs, Water, Environment, and Maritime Transport from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, Somalia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The ministers underscored the urgency of safeguarding Africa's largest freshwater lake, citing increasing pollution, unregulated human activities, and the growing impact of climate change.
