Tension escalated in Kamwangi Town, Kiambu County, as residents took to the streets to protest the sudden overnight demolition of their central market.
This demolition came after President William Ruto, through Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi, on March 7, 2025, launched the modern market in Kamwangi Town.
The new market was the third-storey market in the region after Gakuyu and Gakoe.
It is reported that the demolition was done after the traders in the town rejected the market project by President Ruto. The construction of the new market was to create easy accessibility for the residents and traders, and create an efficient trading environment.
