Security agencies in Busia County have rescued 30 young people who were being transported to Europe by a human trafficking syndicate.   Speaking at the Busia County Police headquarters, Western Regional Police Commander Issa Mahmud said the young people had been deceived that they were going to greener pastures in Europe by a human trafficking syndicate.   "In the last two months, we have arrested around 30 people being trafficked who are aged between 14-25 years.

From our investigation, many of them are deceived that they are being taken to green pastures in Europe and America by road", revealed Mahmud.   Mahmud added that unsuspecting youth are recruited at a zero cost, a trick that makes many youths fall into the trap of the dealers.   "These people are taken to Uganda through a porous border, then taken to South Sudan, Sudan, and Libya.

Upon reaching Libya, through a well-organized channel facilitated by traffickers from Kenya and other countries, is when they inform the parents that they have their children and they are going for green pastures.

They always demand for ransom of up to two to three million for these children to cross the Mediterranean Sea.   He further disclosed that some of the youths are being picked from schools and even on the road without the knowledge of their parents.   "My appeal to the parents is that they should take charge of their children.
