The Executive Secretary for the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) in Makueni County, Julius Kimeu, has urged the national Parliament to increase funding to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) in a bid to ensure teachers are promoted. Mr.
Kimeu lamented that there are still many teachers who have stagnated in one position for 8-10 years, saying the government should take proactive measures to ensure this anomaly is addressed. "A big number of teachers have stagnated in one job group for between 8-10 years.
This has demotivated teachers.
The government should provide more funding to TSC to enable them to promote the teachers," said Kimeu on Thursday while addressing principals at Makueni Boys High School. Concerning interviews conducted in March, he called upon the TSC to give letters to the teachers who were successful so that it can boost their morale in executing the work. On capitation to schools, the Executive Secretary appealed to the government to send money to schools early enough so as to enable the principals in schools to plan well on how to use the monies in running the institutions. Kimeu noted that currently many principals of schools were finding it difficult to run their institutions and added that the government should send money from January so that they can plan their expenditure well. "Currently the government is unable to follow the required procedure of releasing funds to schools in 50%, 30% and 20% tranches.
