John Wanjala Makhanu retired as a Senior Chief in 2001 after serving the government for 33 years in the Naitiri location.
Born in Misikhu and now a farmer in Naitiri, he is among the residents who turned up at Naitiri RC primary school to celebrate Madaraka day in Bungoma North Sub-County.
Talking to KNA today, he emphasised the need to attend such occasions to get information on government policies and as a sign of patriotism to the nation.
He said he witnessed the first Madaraka day in Bungoma in 1963.
