Tharaka Nithi County joined the rest of the country in marking Kenya's 62nd Madaraka Day with celebrations held at Kibugua Grounds, where residents turned out in large numbers to commemorate the historic day.
The event was presided over by County Commissioner David Gitonga, who emphasized the need for the community to remain vigilant against social vices such as illicit brews, alcoholism and their overconsumption.
Gitonga called on members of the public to support government efforts to eradicate illicit brews, urging them to use the toll-free Mulika Uhalifu code 988 to report all illegal activities. "Illicit brews continue to ruin many lives.
We must work together to eliminate this vice by reporting offenders through the 988 platform," said the Commissioner.
