Residents of Busia County have been advised to engage professionals in building and construction works in order to ensure safe structures.

Speaking during a public sensitization forum at a hotel in Busia, a Board Member of the National Construction Authority (NCA), Eng.

Gilbert Arasa, noted that the construction field is the most abused, with non-professionals assuming roles of engineers, among others. "We have seen cases where persons who have not been trained are involved and structures have collapsed," he said, adding that collapsed buildings have caused many deaths.

Arasa warned that engaging non-professionals risked exposing building owners to murder or manslaughter in case such buildings collapse.
