A total of 9, 958 youth across Embu County have applied for the Climate WorX programme, whose application that was being done online closed on June 18.

County Commissioner Jack Obuo reported that the County has been allocated 829 slots for the workers and 29 for supervisors, which he said will be distributed equitably observing inclusivity and gender parity across all the 20 Wards in the County.

The programme structured as a social protection initiative seeks to provide employment and daily wages to youth aged between 18-35 across the country in the areas of road construction, tree planting and environmental sanitation.

Speaking after chairing the weekly County Steering Committee Meeting in his office on Thursday, the County Commissioner said they were waiting to receive the list of the applicants so that they can commence the process of shortlisting and recruitment. "Once we get the list of the applicants, Sub-County Committees spearheaded by Deputy County Commissioners will immediately commence recruitment based on Wards to ensure fair distribution," he reported.
