A suspected criminal fatally shot a Special Police Investigations Unit (SPIV) Officer in Thika, sparking a high-level security operation and recovery of a loaded pistol magazine.
The incident that happened Wednesday evening in the Cravers area of Thika Town during a Stop-and-Search operation, in an incident that has rattled security agencies in the region.
The officer, Police Constable Bernard Koome, was conducting a routine security check when he stopped a man riding a motorcycle.
According to police reports, the suspect drew a firearm and shot Koome at close range before hijacking another motorcycle and fleeing the scene.
