Police have recovered over 1,000 stolen livestock following a gunfight with suspected bandits in Angata Barikoi, Trans Mara sub-county, Narok County.
According to Ngendalel sub-location chief Leonard Langat, the bandits attacked herders on Saturday evening while they were returning their livestock from the grazing fields.
Luckily, officers from the Anti-Stock Theft Unit stationed in Angata responded quickly to the call from the villagers and exchanged gunfire with the attackers, who fled after being subdued. "The officers, along with members of the local community, managed to recover all the stolen livestock," Langat stated, adding that all the stolen animals have been returned to their rightful owners.
No deaths were reported during the incident, which is alleged to have been carried out by bandits from the Kwiyo and Gwitembe areas in Kuria East sub-county.
