On June 25, 2024, Kenya witnessed one of the most dramatic events in its recent political history after thousands of youths flooded the streets.
Their demonstration culminated in parts of Parliament being set ablaze and MPs forced to evacuate through underground tunnels.
The response from police and military forces was swift and brutal, with live ammunition, tear gas, and rubber bullets used to disperse the crowds, tragically costing the lives of many young Kenyans. A year later, the KHRC revealed that Parliament had still not released the CCTV footage showing exactly what happened within and outside its premises.
