The Kenya Air Force has officially bid farewell to Major General Fatuma Gaiti Ahmed, Kenya's first female Air Force Commander, marking the end of a groundbreaking 42-year military career.

Her retirement comes as part of the leadership reshuffle announced by President William Ruto in the military on June 27.

Major General Ahmed made history in May 2024 when she was appointed as the first woman to lead a branch of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).

Her elevation to Commander of the Kenya Air Force was praised as a milestone for gender equality and military reforms in the country.
