The first cohort of the 1000 Machakos Youth Service (MYS), have completed their 21-day training and are to proceed to various Vocational Training colleges (VTCs), to attain specialised training.

The training at the boot camp has seen the youth undergo vigorous physical training, learn discipline, financial literacy and entrepreneurship which are meant to give them a head start in joining VTC.

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti who presided over the pass out parade of the 1000 youths at her Whitehouse grounds said empowering youths is set to help them in the competitive job market.

Wavinya added that the programme has been a dream come true for her since she has been at pains seeing youths idling by the roadside and shopping centres due to lack of skills that could help them earn a living. "My goal is to gradually end the culture of idling by equipping young people with skills that can help them achieve their dreams," added Wavinya.
