President William Ruto has urged African Heads of State to prioritise the crisis in Eastern DR Congo with clarity of mind and empathy.
Ruto who is the current EAC chairperson regretted that the lives and livelihoods of millions have been plunged into uncertainty following months of fighting within DRC.
Speaking during the opening of the Joint EAC-SADC Summit at State House, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, Ruto said unfortunately, DR Congo has lost the opportunity to accelerate its growth and development. "A steadfast commitment to peace and justice is now a necessity and our presence here underscores our consensus that the time for action is now," said Ruto.
President Ruto said the lives of millions of people in the region depend on EAC and SADC leaders' ability to navigate the complex and challenging situation with wisdom, clarity of mind and empathy.
