Doctors at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) have ended their strike after reaching a deal with the hospital administration.
The strike, which began on February 5, had paralysed healthcare services at the facility.
The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) said on Tuesday, February 11, doctors had resumed work after securing commitments on contract terms, promotions and salary arrears. "Doctors on contract terms for over a year will be moved to permanent and pensionable terms by April 30," said the agreement.
The hospital also agreed to stop hiring doctors on contract terms. .Keep ReadingKMPDU secures pay rise for KNH doctors after 56-day strikeMedics threaten to strike over unpaid salaries, againKMPDU blames ailing healthcare system for medical intern's deathKMPDU warns of health services shutdown in DecemberPromotions for eligible doctors will be processed immediately following interviews set for February 11 and 12, with implementation in the February pay slip.
