Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday arrested a 29-year-old man believed to be behind a robbery with violence incident in Kirinyaga County. According to the detectives, the suspect with accomplices committed the act on January 23 when they broke into a home through the kitchen door after a house help asked them to attack her former employer in an effort to recover fee arrears. ''On that fateful night, the suspect and an accomplice, armed with a knife, slipped into the complainant's home through the rear kitchen door.
The unsuspecting homeowner was fast asleep in her bedroom, unaware of the danger lurking just steps away,'' the DCI shared in a statement.
Upon entrance, the suspects confronted the homeowner with the knife claiming that they had been sent to collect salary arrears amounting to Ksh1,800. During the incident, one of the assailants kept the homeowner at knife-point while the other moved swiftly to a nearby bedroom, where the new house help was sleeping. The suspect then silenced her (the new house help) by gagging her mouth and binding her hands with pieces of clothing, leaving her helpless and terrified, according to the report. ''The intruders, bold and menacing, confronted her with the knife, issuing a stern warning that any attempt to raise an alarm would be met with brutal violence,'' a report from the DCI narrated.
