At least 17 people have been affected by a devastating fire that broke out in Kariobangi on Sunday afternoon, the Kenya Red Cross has confirmed.

The Red Cross, in a statement released on Monday, detailed the extent of the blaze, which raged for several hours from Sunday afternoon well into the night, despite firefighters' best efforts.

According to the humanitarian organisation, no fatalities were reported, but property of unknown value was destroyed, with two schools also suffering heavy losses. "For the last nine hours, efforts to contain the fire at Kariobangi Light Industries have been ongoing," the Red Cross revealed in a statement.
