Migori County Commissioner Mutua Kisilu says the local security agencies will collaborate with their Tanzanian counterparts to crackdown on counterfeits and illegal products along the porous common border.
Kisilu noted that the country was losing revenue in terms of the illegal products that crossed into the country without being accounted for. "We have been losing a lot of revenue as a country from individuals who use 'panya routes" instead of designated border points of Isebania and Muhuru Bay," explained Kisilu.
Speaking at his office, the administrator urged the Migori residents along the border to be patriotic and assist the multi-security agency to protect the country in the fight against these negative vices. "We need to be alert to protect our country and we should not take part in assisting foreigners to cross over with the illegal goods that are not accounted for by our KRA officers," said Kisilu.
He added that they will continue to work closely with their counterparts from Tarime, Tanzania, to ensure border safety.
