Narok town residents have been warned against buying uninspected meat following reports that some butcheries were selling meat that was unfit for human consumption.
Narok Central Assistant County Commissioner (ACC) Ali Shakur confirmed that some butchers were selling unauthorised meat to unsuspecting members of the public.
He confirmed that one person had been arrested at Midland Butchery in Narok town while selling uninspected meat and he was expected to be arraigned in court, where he will be charged with contravening public health laws. "Acting on a tip-off, I led the police and local chief to raid Midland Butchery along the Nyawera Road, where we established that the joint was selling uninspected cow meat," he said.
The public health officers were called to inspect the meat, where they confirmed that the meat was not fit for human consumption.
