The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has called upon the Inspector General of Police to launch a thorough investigation into allegations of harassment of Journalists covering a security operation in Majengo, Gikomba, and Pumwani areas of Nairobi County.

In a press statement sent to newsrooms, the MCK Chief Executive Officer and Secretary to the Council, Mr.

David Omwoyo, urged the IG to ensure those responsible for the unlawful acts on Wednesday, 5th March 2025, are held accountable.

According to Omwoyo, the journalists were reporting on demonstrations sparked by the alleged shooting of two teenage boys, which reportedly occurred on the night of March 4, 2025, in Majengo. "The Council notes multiple incidents of harassment, temporary detention and assaults, with police accused of manhandling journalists and denying them access to affected areas," said Omwoyo.
