Remembered countrywide as the infamous chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) who oversaw the 2017 and 2022 general elections, behind closed doors, Wafula Chebukati was a man who loved his family, particularly his wife, Mary Wanyonyi Chebukati.
This was clearly reflected during Chebukati's funeral service as his three children-two sons and a daughter-and his wife rained praise on him during their tributes.
Endearingly referring to him as Chairman, Mary narrated the story of how they met in 1988 until his death on February 20, 2025. "The formal journey between you, my darling, and I began on April 21, 1990, when we solemnised our marriage at Mariakani Christian Centre, but our story started long before that," Mary began.
