Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has urged women to combat gender-based violence (GBV) and report all instances, while also safeguarding their children from such violence.
Speaking at the Machakos Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Rescue Center during International Women's Day celebrations, she urged women to be vigilant and vocal about the abuse that is going on at a high trajectory.
Ndeti condemned the increasing violence against women, including rape and murder, and urged authorities not to allow perpetrators get away with their crimes in kangaroo courts where elders settled such masters without regard of the victim's considerations. "People should not keep quiet about GBV cases, even if the abuser is their husband, and should forward them to authorities for legal procedures," warned the Governor.
Furthermore, she condemned the rising cases of sodomy against young boys, calling it a grave violation that destroys lives, emphasizing the need for immediate action and urging the community to protect children by reporting perpetrators. "As we mark the International Women's Day, we are aware that GBV does not only affect women but also men and children and as a County are committed to protecting families and reuniting affected families through counselling services available at our GBV Rescue center," added the Governor.
