Teso South Deputy County Commissioner John Kichwen has urged all sugarcane farmers and other stakeholders in the sugarcane sector to formally register with the area chiefs.

Addressing residents during a public Baraza held at Ochude area, Teso South Sub County on Tuesday, Kichwen said that registration would come in handy in combating incidents of sugarcane theft in the area. "All sugarcane farmers should register with the area chiefs,' he directed, adding that the move will make it easier to spot potential thieves and conmen.

He advised farmers to take proactive measures to protect their livelihoods and safeguard the importance of sugarcane farming in the community. "Here in Ochude, we are sugarcane farmers and that is our economic pillar.

We have to protect this pillar in any way possible.
