Isaac Mutuma has been sworn in as Meru governor after the High Court upheld the impeachment of Kawira Mwangaza.
The swearing-in took place at Mwendantu Grounds at 10:20 a.m.
on Monday.
Mutuma, who previously served as deputy governor, assumes office following a ruling by Justice Bahati Mwamuye affirming the Senate's decision to remove Mwangaza. The judge ruled that the impeachment met constitutional requirements and dismissed Mwangaza's petition for lack of merit. "The amended petition dated December 23, 2024, has not met the required legal threshold for this court to disturb the decision of the Senate," said Mwamuye.
