Linda Kiome, the Vice Chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) selection panel, has been appointed the new Meru Deputy Governor. Governor Isaac Mutuma picked Kiome from a pool of potential candidates that included both elected and nominated Members of the County Assembly (MCAs). Kiome previously served as the legal advisor to former Governor Kawira Mwangaza, before their fallout.
She also briefly served as the acting President of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) following the removal of then-President Nelson Havi. In the 2022 general election, Kiome was the running mate of former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi.
The pair finished second behind Mwangaza.
Following her nomination, activist Salesio Thuranira expressed hope that Governor Mutuma and Kiome would maintain a cordial working relationship to deliver on the county's development agenda. Among those who congratulated Kiome was Abogeta West MCA Dennis 'DMK' Kiogora.
