Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson candidate Anne Amadi has called for high emotional intelligence, strong leadership and legal reforms to strengthen the electoral body.
Speaking during her interview before the selection panel on Monday, March 24, Amadi said the role demands the ability to unify members, maintain good working relationships and protect the commission's independence. "This is a high-pressure position that requires competence and the ability to rally members around a shared vision," said Amadi.
She noted that the chairperson must work closely with the secretary to the commission while ensuring the secretariat remains free from external interference.
Amadi emphasised the need for continuous engagement with lawmakers, stating that IEBC has the mandate to push Parliament for necessary electoral reforms. "IEBC can go to court and seek legal redress where needed to ensure proper legislation," she said.
