Former Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has congratulated Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary-General Francis Atwoli on becoming a father and urged him to reconsider holding the SG position as he embraces his new fatherhood responsibilities.
While congratulating Atwoli, Kibwana encouraged him to take paternity leave and, in doing so, challenged the union on the longevity of Atwoli's tenure in the position.
Atwoli has held the COTU SG position for 23 years.
The positive message took a twist when the former governor urged COTU to use the opportunity during Atwoli's paternity leave to discuss whether it was appropriate for union leaders to hold their positions for life. "I heartily congratulate the COTU Secretary-General, Francis Atwoli, and his family on the new addition to their family.
