The National Police Service (NPS) has urged the public to obey traffic laws, warning that strict measures will be taken against violators.
In a statement released dated March 28, Police Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga said the service is aware of the increased movement expected during the Easter holiday, which often leads to heavy traffic.
The agency also reminded Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operators to exercise extreme caution and warned of stern action against offenders. "Stern action, including cancellation of operating licenses, is an option where PSVs dangerously and recklessly handle students as has happened in the past," said Nyaga.
NPS also vowed to implement stringent measures to improve road safety, especially with the expected heavy rains in many parts of the country, which could lead to flooding and poor visibility. ''We have put in place an extensive operation plan to conduct thorough enforcement checks and ensure road safety compliance on all roads,'' The police spokesperson further noted that road safety is a shared responsibility and urged all drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, boda boda riders, and passengers to adhere to traffic laws.
