There was chaos in Thika on Sunday morning as goons engaged Kiambu County Government officials in running battles over a newly established market.
The goons, who were reportedly ferried to the market from a different location, attacked security personnel who were on deck to guard the new Ngoliba Trading Centre.
Further reports suggest that the goons were there to protect a contractor who was keen to triumph over a court order regarding the legal rights to construct the complex market.
The security personnel, who have been at the market for a better part of the week, were overwhelmed by the goons, who hurled stones at them, forcing the officers to flee for safety.
