Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Secretary General Davji Atellah says that he is skeptical that the new health cabinet secretary, Aden Duale, will handle the weight of the Health Ministry.
Addressing the media on Sunday, March 30, Atellah said that Duale lacks a solid understanding of how the country's health sector operates.
Atellah further noted that Duale's immediate predecessor, Deborah Barasa, had a broader understanding of how to steer the docket than even former CS Susan Nakhumicha. "If you look back to the previous interactions we had with a non-doctor, which was Susan Nakhumicha, she called for the strike last year, and this is because she could not understand the role of doctors and the role of interns.
Even the need to have a functional healthcare, she was strongly politicising every issue of healthcare," he said.
