Migori County has distributed certified sorghum and millet seeds to farmers in Nyatike Sub County to boost food security in the semi-arid region.
Speaking during the seed distribution exercise to 3,000 farmers from Nyatike Sub County, the Chief Officer in Charge of Environment, Disaster Management and Natural Resources, Dalmas Odero said that the sorghum and millet seeds will boost the agricultural activity in the semi-arid area. "Today we have distributed certified sorghum and millet seeds to 3,000 farmers in seven wards in Nyatike Sub County, a semi-arid region, to support our farmers," said Odero.
He called upon the farmers to take advantage of the April short rains to plant the seeds that are expected to be ready within two months to boost food security in the area.
The region that borders Lake Victoria to the south experiences very short rains, making it difficult for farmers to cultivate long-term crops.
