The construction of the Sh50 million Iten Economic Stimulus Market is set to resume after the National Construction Authority (NCA) cleared the project, following an inspection that revealed structural issues.
The project had been halted after a beam collapsed during construction, raising safety concerns among residents and slowing down development plans.
However, following an assessment by engineers from the NCA, the Ministry of Public Works, and the county government, construction is now scheduled to continue.
Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich, speaking during a site visit, explained the cause of the incident and the steps taken thereafter. "We experienced a major challenge during the construction of the Iten Market when one of the upper beams collapsed," said Governor Rotich. "This setback affected our timelines and disrupted the project.
