Two people are nursing serious injuries following a hit-and-run accident involving a speeding miraa pickup at Kangondu junction along the Embu-Meru highway, an incident that happened on Monday night.
According to the report, the pickup was being driven at high speed when it rammed into a boda boda rider and his passenger before fleeing the scene. The victims, who sustained multiple injuries, were rescued and rushed to Hunters Medical Centre in Runyenjes, where the boda boda rider, whose condition was more critical, was later referred to Embu Level 5 Hospital for specialised treatment.
The incident has sparked outrage among residents, who blame miraa transporters for a string of reckless driving cases in the area. The car which rolled at Bangali shopping centre in Tana River County on December 31, 2021after a tyre burst, killing the driver courtesy Locals are now demanding immediate intervention from the authorities, including the enforcement of stricter traffic rules or a complete ban on miraa pickups along the route.
The latest accident follows closely on the heels of another tragedy just two days earlier, where two brothers lost their lives after being hit by a miraa vehicle.
