The Samburu county government has flagged off food to 536 Early Childhood Development (ECD) schools, targeting 38,000 pupils for the term two school feeding programme.
Speaking after flagging off 4000 bags of rice, 700 bags of beans, and 700 jerry cans of cooking oil, Samburu County Education CEC Mark Egelan said that the school feeding programme in Samburu has led to an increase in ECD enrollment and retention. "Most pastoralists children eat one meal a day so over the years.
The Samburu school feeding programme has seen an increase in ECD enrollments," he said.
The CEC noted that there would be strict supervision of the food in schools and at the same time cautioned teachers against using the food for personal gains. "Anybody who robs food belonging to our children is a thief and should be reported to the nearest police station," he said.
