Members of Parliament have been locked out of offices at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) due to unpaid rent of more than Sh50 million.

A lawmaker has confirmed on condition of anonymity.

The Parliamentary Service Commission, in a letter dated May 9, asked  KICC to restore access as it works to clear the arrears before the financial year ends on June 30.

In the letter, the commission explained that it has a long-standing contract with the Kenyatta International Convention Centre to provide accommodation and parking for lawmakers. "We request that you allow the members of Parliament to continue accessing the facilities at KICC, including parking at COMESA grounds without interference," said Clement Nyandiere, Director-General of Parliamentary Joint Services.
