The Kenya Sugarcane Board CEO, Jude Chesire, has revealed that farmers who sell their sugarcane to the four leased sugar factories will be paid weekly.
In a press briefing on Tuesday, May 13, Chesire stated that the leases will be revoked if the investors fail to pay farmers on time, as outlined in their agreement.
He further noted that farmers delivering their produce to the four factories will also receive annual bonuses based on the quantity of sugarcane supplied.
Kenya recently finalised the agreement to lease the Nzoia, Chemelil, Muhoroni, and Sony factories to investors for 30 years in a bid to revive the struggling sugar sector.
