Three people have lost their lives while 13 others sustained serious injuries after the matatu they were travelling in rammed into a trailer along Mombasa-Nairobi Highway in the wee hours of Tuesday.

The 5.30am accident occurred at Malili Market in Mukaa Subcounty when the Matatu driver rammed into the trailer from behind killing two people on the spot and another died while undergoing treatment.

The injured, who suffered fractures among other injuries, were rushed to Sultan Hamud and Kilungu Sub County hospitals for treatment. "The driver may have been speeding leaving two people dying on the spot and one while undergoing treatment in hospital," said Mukaa Sub County Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Mr.

Buxton Mayabi who confirmed the accident on Tuesday. "I appeal to motorists plying the busy highway to observe traffic rules and avoid speeding.
