Naivas Supermarket has denied selling expired products, hours after the Nairobi County Assembly's Health Committee ordered the chain to close all its Nairobi branches over allegations of selling expired food products.
In a statement shared on Wednesday, the retail giant firmly denied a string of claims against the company, terming them as "false, misleading and potentially harmful". "Naivas Supermarket wishes to correct recent misinformation circulating on social media and other informal channels regarding the alleged sale of expired products and the supposed closure of Nairobi branches by authorities," the statement read in part. The retailer also refuted claims that some of its branches had been shut down.
The supermarket chain that has over 30 branches in Nairobi, has insisted its doors will remain open, despite the viral claims.
