Rachuonyo sub-county primary and junior secondary schools’ athletic championship kicked off on Thursday.
Collins Oloo the chairperson Kosele base sports championship speaking during the opening of the competition said sports are very important activities for children’s development.
The chairperson called on all education stakeholders to support sporting activities for holistic development of children.
According to the competence-based curriculum (CBC) sports and talent are key learning areas.
Mr Oloo said Kosele base championship held at Kosele Stadium is composed of nine schools which he said were all present and ready for the competition.
The nine schools in the base include Kosele Primary, Ochunyno Primary, Simbiri Primary, Nyalgosi Primary, Mill Hill School, GEB Primary, Agape Academy, Oasis Primary school and Kosele Christian School.
The chairperson said after the completion of the base championship, they will head to zonal championship to be held at Nyalenda for Saye zone.
“Participants in the championship in the primary section must be above 12years-old and for those in junior secondary, they must be above 15 years old,” the sports chairperson said and called for strict adherence to sports rules.
He said they will use the birth certificate to verify the age of participants.
