Government constructs classrooms, labs and dormitories at Nairobi School

Development work under the government-funded projects at Nairobi School in Westlands Constituency, Nairobi County, is progressing well, a project whose completion is expected to increase student enrolment.

The projects that are under construction at the school include a science complex with six laboratories, 12 classrooms and six dormitories.

Speaking during an inspection tour of the ongoing projects, Westlands Deputy County Commissioner Moses Gicharu said the six laboratories being constructed on a three-storey building by Everstep Enterprises Ltd. will have two complete science laboratories on the ground and first floor, while the second floor will have two ICT laboratories.

“The four science laboratories on the ground and first floors will be for science practicals while that of ICT will be installed with computers. All six laboratories will cater for about 58 to 60 students per sitting,” said Gicharu.

The Deputy County Commissioner toured the school while accompanied by the Director Government Delivery Unit, Jonah Orumoi and the National Government Development-Regional/County Implementation Coordination and Management Committee (NGD-RICMC/CICMC) members to inspect the status and progress of the ongoing works.

He urged the contractor awarded the Science Complex project, whose works are currently at 75 percent completion, to finish the construction by May 15th, 2025 as scheduled.

Gicharu said the committee was impressed with the ongoing works and urged the contractors to adhere to the contract specifications.

Contractor Stephen Njenga of Everstep Enterprises Ltd instructed committed to complete the science complex project as per the specified period.

Nairobi Deputy Regional Director of Education, Hesbon Nyagaka expressed confidence that once the projects are complete, there will be high transition, admission of more students and delivery of quality education as a result of the new laboratories.

“Once the projects are done, the school will be ready to transition to the competency-based curriculum. The laboratories will offer all science, technology, engineering, and mathematics pathways at Senior School,” said Nyagaka.

The committee members advised the contractors to ensure they incorporate safety measures as construction work is going on.

Nairobi School Principal, Casper Maina said the school management thanks the government and more specifically President William Ruto for supporting and initiating the ongoing project in the school.

The dormitories and classrooms project, whose percentage progress is at 50 percent complete, is being undertaken by Agrobriq Investment Limited.

New dormitories will comprise two blocks with three floors each, with the ground floors having 42 cubes while first floors and second floors will have 47 cubes respectively, with each cube accommodating four occupants.

The two blocks that are expected to accommodate a total of 544 students each will also have entertainment halls on the ground floor to cater for at least 60 to 100 occupants.
