The Kenya Independent Commissions Workers Union (KICOWU) has warned politicians against using the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission as a scapegoat for possible election losses in 2027.

In a statement on May 17, union's Secretary General Njeru Kanyamba said some political figures were issuing inflammatory statements on social media that could trigger unrest ahead of or after the polls. "It has come to our notice that some politicians are preparing their guns on IEBC, and uttering words that are likely to erupt into anarchy.

This behavior is not only irresponsible but dangerous to our democracy," said Kanyamba.

Kanyamba noted that the union, which represents staff across independent commissions including the IEBC, is concerned about the safety and wellbeing of its members.
