The Youth Enterprise Development Fund (YEDF) in Vihiga County has disbursed Sh8,372,000 to 32 groups and 12 individuals in the current financial year.
The county YEDF Credit Officer Cleophas Odhiambo said the beneficiaries are engaging in various activities, including agribusiness, venturing into poultry, horticulture, apiculture and dairy value chains, as well as doing retailing businesses.
Mr Odhiambo stated that their follow-up had shown that the chosen enterprises were doing well and the livelihoods had been transformed. "We have a group undertaking apiculture in Banja ward, Hamisi Sub-County, which is performing very well," said he, adding that they harvested a substantial quantity of honey which has a ready market and fetches a good price.
The YEDF Officer added that an application of Sh 4.1 million is being processed and is going to boost 425 youth entrepreneurs in their various business activities.
