Nyeri governor Mutahi Kahiga has pointed an accusing finger at Mathria MP Eric Wamumbi over the chaos that was witnessed on Tuesday, May 20, between supporters of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and a rival faction.

Kahiga was critical of Wambumbi, whom he accused of fanning the flames of otherwise peaceful demonstrations by supporters of Gachagua.

Amid rising political tensions, Kahiga condemned the chaos, blaming the unrest squarely on local political leadership. "I condemn what was happening in Karatina, and I specifically blame the current MP of Mathira," Kahiga said. "The people of Mathira were peaceful, and they should be allowed to express themselves because it is a constitutional right." The governor further drew contrast between Karatina and neighbouring areas such as Othaya, which also held similar demonstrations, albeit peacefully.
