The High Court has allowed Members of Parliament to proceed with the vetting of President William Ruto's nominees to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), but temporarily barred their formal appointment and swearing-in.
Justice Lawrence Mugambi ruled that although the vetting process may continue, the government is restrained from gazettetting or swearing in the seven nominees, including Chairperson nominee Erastus Edung Ethekon, pending the full hearing and determination of a constitutional petition filed by two voters Kelvin Omondi and Boniface Mwangi.
This is after the judge issued conservatory orders blocking the National Assembly from vetting and approving President William Ruto's nominees to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
The orders followed a petition filed by two voters, Kelvin Omondi and Boniface Mwangi, who asked the court to halt the vetting of the seven IEBC nominees, citing procedural irregularities and violations of constitutional and legal requirements by the selection panel.
