The National Police Service (NPS) has warned Kenyans planning to use the Nairobi-Mombasa highway to be wary of massive traffic congestion along the ever-busy route.
NPS Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga on Friday morning said the gridlock, which affected the highway between Emali and Masimba, was caused by an accident that took place at the Jet Inn area.
According to him, the fatal accident occurred after three trailers collided on a railway bridge, completely blocking the road, with vehicles unable to pass.
Reports indicate that the accident, which occurred on Friday morning, left one person dead and a driver nursing serious injuries.
