Kakamega County Governor Fernandes Barasa urged residents to enroll in the Social Health Authority (SHA) to enable them to access free medical care in public hospitals.
Speaking during this year's Madaraka Day celebrations at Malava Primary School, the Governor highlighted that under the SHA program, enrolled members are able to access medical treatment from level one to level six public hospitals without being required to pay any extra levy.
He said patients under the scheme are able to access a broad range of health care, from primary health care to level six hospitals where advanced and comprehensive treatment is offered. "I wish to urge residents of Kakamega that you can enroll under the SHA and Taifa care program and you will be able to access free medical treatment at level two and three hospitals and SHA also caters for about 80% for comprehensive health care at level five and six hospitals," he added.
Barasa emphasized that with a monthly contribution of 300 shillings only, beneficiaries are able to access essential medical services and have hospital bills covered during times of illness and medical emergencies.
