A showdown unfolded at Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi as a team of top legal minds, who included former Chief Justice David Maraga, appeared to represent software developer and activist Rose Njeri, who is facing charges relating to computer misuse and cybercrime.
The courtroom on Tuesday was charged with high-profile legal experts as some of Kenya's most prominent lawyers sought to defend Njeri, amid uproar by Kenyans on social media who were calling for her immediate and unconditional release. Njeri's defense team also featured notable figures including former Vice President and Senior Counsel Kalonzo Musyoka, Senior Counsel Chris Khaminwa, Senior Counsel Eugene Wamalwa, Dan Maanzo, Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Erice Theuri, and Ndegwa Njiru, alongside representatives from the LSK.
Their united front highlighted the gravity of the case and pointed to the complex legal issues at stake.
Outside the courthouse, dozens of Kenyans gathered, singing songs and demanding the immediate release of Njeri, who has been in police custody since Friday.
