Western Regional Commissioner Irungu Macharia has asked security committees from the region to identify possible hotspots and incidents that may trigger violence in the communities.
Speaking during a regional security meeting at Mumias Cultural Centre, Macharia urged the security personnel to heighten surveillance as the country heads towards the 2027 general election.
He promised that the National Government Administration officers (NGAO) will do everything possible to ensure the country remains peaceful before, during and after the elections. "We must be proactive such that we are able to detect or to get advance information on whatever is going to happen in your area of jurisdiction; we don't want to be caught off-guard," the RC noted.
He urged the NGAO officers to take note of sensitive issues like boundary disputes and resource-based conflicts and address them before they explode and cause violence between warring parties.
