Security officers assigned to Former Chief Justice David Maraga have been withdrawn just days after he joined protesters on the streets in Nairobi city centre on June 25, 2025.

Addressing the issue in a formal letter to the Inspector General of Police and the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, dated June 27, Maraga said that the withdrawal of his security is tied to his public criticism of the country's police leadership.

He stated that one of his bodyguards was asked not to report to duty on June 25 but instead go on a routine entry in the firearm register. "On June 25, the day I joined the youth and families of the victims who died and those who went missing from the events of a year ago, one of the officers attached to me was asked not to report for duty but instead go and make a routine monthly entry in the firearm register," he stated.
